Pregnancy Yoga in Buckingham, Towcester & Brackley - What to Expect & Why It’s Worth It

Pregnancy yoga has become one of those things that gets recommended to almost every expectant parent, by midwives, friends, Instagram algorithms. But if you’ve never done yoga before, or you’re not sure what actually happens in a pregnancy yoga class, it can be hard to know whether it’s genuinely useful or just another thing on the to-do list.
I’m Vicki Wilkinson, a practising birth doula and pregnancy yoga teacher running weekly Pregnancy Flow classes at Blackpit Brewery in Buckingham (just a short drive from Towcester, Brackley, Silverstone and the surrounding villages). I’ve been supporting families through pregnancy and birth for over 12 years, and pregnancy yoga is one of the things I recommend most consistently to the parents I work with. Here’s why.
It’s not really about the yoga
When most people picture pregnancy yoga they imagine lots of stretching and breathing. And yes, there’s plenty of that. But what makes a good pregnancy yoga class genuinely useful isn’t the poses, it’s what sits underneath them.
In Pregnancy Flow, every movement we do has a purpose. The positions we practise support optimal baby positioning for birth. The breathing techniques we use are the same ones that will help you manage contractions. The relaxation we build into every session is the foundation of the hypnobirthing tools you’ll actually reach for in labour. It’s yoga, but it’s yoga designed by someone who has been in the birthing room and knows exactly what you’ll need when the time comes.
What pregnancy yoga can actually do for you
Physically, regular pregnancy yoga can ease some of the most common discomforts of pregnancy - back pain, hip tightness, pelvic girdle discomfort and poor sleep. Gentle movement improves circulation, reduces swelling and helps your body adapt to the changes happening week by week.
But the benefits that surprise people most are the mental ones. Learning to breathe slowly and deliberately, really breathe, not just the shallow chest breathing most of us default to, genuinely changes how you experience stress and discomfort. Practised regularly during pregnancy, those breathing patterns become automatic. Which means when labour starts, your body already knows what to do.
You’ll meet other local parents-to-be
This one sounds simple but it matters more than people expect. Pregnancy can feel quite isolating, particularly if your friends haven’t had children yet or your antenatal appointments feel rushed. Coming to a small, friendly weekly class near Buckingham means you’re in a room with other people at exactly the same stage of life, sharing the same questions, the same anxieties, and the same excitement.
Many of my Pregnancy Flow regulars are still in touch long after their babies arrive, which is one of my favourite things about running the class.
Who is Pregnancy Flow for?
Pregnancy Flow runs every Wednesday evening at Blackpit Brewery, Buckingham, and is suitable from 12 weeks of pregnancy all the way to your due date. You don’t need any previous yoga experience (most of my regulars had never been to a yoga class before). All you need is comfortable clothing and a willingness to give it a go.
The class draws attendees from across the area including Buckingham, Towcester, Brackley, Silverstone, Bicester and surrounding villages. It’s a small group so you get genuine individual attention rather than feeling lost in a crowd.
A note on what makes this class different
There are pregnancy yoga classes available in lots of places. What makes Pregnancy Flow different is that it’s led by a practising doula, someone who is still actively supporting families through birth, who knows what labour really looks and feels like, and who has built every element of the class around what actually helps.
When we talk about breathing in labour, I’m not reading from a textbook. When we practise positions that support baby’s positioning, I’ve seen why that matters. That real-world experience shapes everything about how the class is run.
Want to give it a try?
Mats are limited so I’d recommend booking your spot sooner rather than later. If the class is full when you check, you can join the waitlist and I’ll be in touch as soon as a space becomes available.
