How do I keep my baby cool when it's hot?

As the weather warms up, you might be concerned about keeping your baby cool. Here are my top tips for when the temperatures rise.
1.Keep babies out of direct sunlight wherever possible, especially babies under 6 months as their skin contains too little melanin.
2. Keep bedroom windows open and blinds & curtains closed throughout the day. Purchase a room thermometer if possible.
3. Place a fan in the room, however make sure is not directed towards their face & the cable is out of reach
4.Give them a cool bath before bed.
5. Keep night wear to a minimum - just a nappy for bed is ok! You can always cover them with a muslin later as it cools down. Cotton sheets will also help keep them cool.
6. Just like us, babies need to drink lots of fluids. Breastfeed babies may want to feed more when it is hot but they do not need any water until they are starting solids. If you are breastfeeding make sure you are also staying hydrated. Formula fed babies may enjoy a little cooled boiled water in between feeds. You can also make breast milk lollies or if your baby is on solids try making some fruit ice lollies.
